  •  COMMUNITY
Celebrating Four Years as Spiritual Community

By mid-October, invitations will be in the mail for Common Ground's Fourth Anniversary celebration which will take place on Friday, November 14, at Orange County Mining Company in the City of Orange.

We have selected this venue specifically because of the challenging economic circumstances that are prevalent everywhere. Costs are generally rising for these types of events. So, we have made a commitment to keep our costs under what we experienced last year in an effort to make the event more affordable.

Coming together in spiritual community is the important thing. We can have fun and honor one another while wearing denim and bandana print as well as we can while wearing ties and pearls.

We have scaled our event to meet a modest budget. And. It will be awesome.

  • Robert Fields will provide entertainment and dance music.
  • Our entire spiritual community and its friends are invited to get ready for the party by learning to line dance with instructor, Terrie Lamar.

(She will offer classes at Common Ground on Thursday, November 6, and Saturday, November 8, ~ just in time for our anniversary celebration!)

    Now is the time:
  • Mark your calendar
  • Set aside these dates
  • Let us know if you would like to participate on the Event Team (email us at info@embracehumanity.com)
  • Get an appropriate 'western' theme outfit together (or not)
  • Plan to attend (for sure)

    More information is forthcoming!

Please provide your current mailing address if you want to receive an invitation and aren't sure Common Ground has up-to-date information for you

'Poverty is the worst form of violence." Mohandas Gandhi

"Mercy House" has been awarded a contract by the County of Orange to provide site management of its "Cold Weather Armory Program" for 2008- 2009.

The program, which operates from November through April, provides up to 400 beds a night for the homeless in Santa Ana and Fullerton.

Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up, clean-up and handing out donated items. Common Ground has committed to providing 10 volunteers to serve from 5-7 pm at the Santa Ana location on the last Sunday evening of the month beginning November 30 and ending in April.

. Please let us know if you are able to step forward to be a part of this important service team.

Sign up after services on Sundays or email glenda@embracehumanity.com

Help make a difference in the life of a child served by the SPIN program by providing a birthday card and $15 gift card for Target, ToysRUs or other appropriate store.

Children's names, ages and birthdates are available each week after service. Choose a child who calls to your heart.

At least one week before the child's birthday, please assemble the gift card and birthday card with the child's name on it and place it into the wrapped 'Birthday Present' on the information table.

If you have questions please email Judith Freyer Palmer at judithfreyer@mac.com.

     SPIRITUAL ECONOMICS
     Security in a Changing World

In these complex times it is very important for all of us to come together in spiritual community to develop, cultivate, and practice ways to "Keep moving in the direction of our dreams," as Thoreau would say.

We are humanly divine and divinely human in an age of great change.

Today there is much fear and a lot of talk about, " not enough," ~ "not enough money", "not enough jobs", "not enough time." Our work together is to support each other through these uncertain times and to develop a rich awareness that will not be influenced by the ups and downs of the economy,

In spiritual community, we want to become, collectively, a positive influence toward the ebb and flow of life and human conditions.

Common Ground is meeting these challenges head-on.

We are creating an opportunity for every single person to become personally empowered through tuning into positive perceptions.

It is true that too many of us are 'over- read and under-done' when it comes to putting into practice the ideas we read about. Let's change that! Let's invest in 'human capital' by standing on the strength of spiritual truth.

We invite you to join us in revisiting the popular classic, Spiritual Economics, by Eric Butterworth, a legend and spiritual icon in the New Thought Movement.
  • Make a commitment to spend one and a half hours a week ~ for 12 weeks ~ shifting your ideas about financial adversity
  • Join an In-Home Book Study and Discussion Circle

  •  AUGUST TITHES
Common Ground is truly blessed and in turn becomes a blessing in the world

Common Ground reaches out to the global community through its spiritual practice of conscious giving.

Giving back to the world is an important aspect of its mission and vision. A balanced integral approach is reflected in conscious selection of 501c3 qualified programs and institutions to which Common Ground provides its tithes each month.

Recipients of AUGUST tithes include: Seeds of Light helping children and families affected by the AIDS crisis in South Africa; IONS (Institute of Noetic Sciences), advancing the science of consciousness and human experience to serve individual and collective transformation; The Hunger Project, a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger; African Well Fund, building and maintaining wells in Africa.

The organizations to which Common Ground tithes are meaningful programs where people from the spiritual community and its friends are already serving with heart and hand and supporting with time and treasure.

  •  NATURE, EARTH & SUSTAINABLE PLANET
"Walking is the great adventure, the first meditation, a practice of heartiness and soul primary to humankind. Walking is the exact balance of spirit and humility. Out walking, one notices ecology on the level where it counts." Gary Snyder, American Poet & Deep Ecology Philosopher

Common Ground's Earth Ministry has selected two important causes as beneficiaries of tithes generated by our participation in the Be the Cause Walk for Hope on Saturday, October 18, 2008, from 9 am to 1 pm.

Defenders of Wildlife, dedicated to the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural communities; and, The Humane Society, whose mission is to celebrate animals and confront cruelty, will be this year's recipients of Walk for Hope tithes.

  • Please take time to register for the Walk for Hope event.

  •  TRANSFORMATIVE LIFE PATH
     Seeing With New Eyes

During the month of October, Common Ground offers two important opportunities to explore ways of changing how we experience and relate to ourselves, others and the world.

Rev. Glenda and Rev. Judy will present Transformational Life Mapping, an interactive exercise in tracking and charting your personal life map.

  • Two sessions, Tuesdays, October 7 and 21, from 7 to 8:30 pm
  • This series has been inspired by IONS decadelong research program.
  • This is a Love Offering event.

Beth Rasmussen, a long-time student of the work of Leslie Temple-Thurston, offers a 3-session series of classes, The Power of One, an engaged process-oriented class based on Temple-Thurston's work.
  • Thursdays, October 16, 23 & 30, 7 to 8:30 pm
  • $20 per person per class

  • Discover aspects of your consciousness that may be keeping you off balance.
  • Explore the ups and downs of your own consciousness that are kept in motion by the polarities of attraction/repulsion and desire/fear.
  • Learn the 'square technique' to help you open to new information, find hidden aspects and shorten the path to awareness.

Imagine what it would look like if you could actually uncover the locked polarities of your own consciousness! For example:
  • Desire to be in Control
  • Fear of being in control
  • Desire to be out of control
  • Fear of being out of contro

Temple- Thurston states, "We all contain all four corners of the square. Some of them may be locked into the unconscious, but they are all there somewhere. It is very common to want to go into denial regarding some of the corners."
