Nothing is permanently satisfying. In fact, nothing is permanently anything. Without exception, everything is in a constant state of change. Built into everything is a life span. Things pass through phases. We create a personal hell for ourselves when we get stuck in trying to control things so that they stay the same. Identifying ourselves as an essential part of the divine flow of the Universe reminds us that regardless of the changes going on around us, we can feel secure knowing God doesn’t come and go. We can rest easy knowing that there is no need to hold on to anything in life. We can enjoy the abundance of life without attachment instead of holding on for fear of losing something. There is a difference between having something and holding on to it. When we are attached and cling to someone or some experience we create obstacles and block our energy flow. As we trust the natural abundance of the Universe we step into a flow where the field of Intelligence operates through us. Dee’s House ~ A Recovery Home for Women Facing Addiction

Reverend Glenda and Reverend Judy are pleased to announce that they have accepted an invitation to become spiritual directors at Dee’s House, a local treatment center for women.

Dee’s House uses a holistic ‘Mind ~ Body ~ Spirit’ approach to help women between the ages of 27 and 60 develop a new love and respect for themselves, let go of destructive thoughts and habits, and create a life of permanent “well-briety.”

Kimmy Hunkle, founder and director of Dee’s House, understands that spiritual healing is an important aspect of recovery. Foundational to the program is the idea that spirituality is the road away from addiction and towards self-respect, self-love and self-rule.

The inclusive vision of Common Ground supports the overall purpose of Dee’s House, which fosters an environment in which women can feel comfortable to connect with a God of their own understanding and at the same time cultivate techniques geared toward relaxation, mindfulness, tranquility, and insight.

Through spiritual direction, Reverend Glenda and Reverend Judy will help women in the program remember the radiance of their Being and connect to the power that lies within them.

Daniel Nahmod now appears at Common Ground on a regular basis. Daniel presents an evening program of music and inspiration every first and third Wednesday of the month from 7:30 pm to 8:45 pm. Experience Daniel’s music ‘up close and personal’. The intimate setting of our Sanctuary is the perfect place to be for an uplifting mid-week experience of spiritual community with a master musician and inspirational message. Daniel also appears at Common Ground during Sunday services at 10:30 am. His upcoming Music as Message appearances will be on November 20 in 2011 and January 1, April 1, July 1 and September 30 in 2012.

Fifth Anniversary ~ November 2009

The theme of Common Ground's Fifth Anniversary Celebration was focused on fun and spiritual community. Guests were invited to come dressed as characters reflective of the game of "Clue" (or not). The evening centered on 'solving' a clever mystery and finding clues to the identity of the 'culprit'. Each table was set with a different centerpiece representing the qualities of a room in the 'mystery mansion'. One of the clues was written on a piece of 'flying wish paper' which was lit on fire and then vanished. Everyone was delighted by the surprise. Those sitting in the 'library' were entertained by one of the guests who accidentally almost caught his pants on fire while playing with the 'flying paper'. Oops! Luckily no damage occurred but much laughter brightened the energy. As always, Common Ground's very own Robert Fields brought his extraordinary talent to the evening and provided the perfect musical compliment to support the mystery story, dancing and even accompaniment for a surprise appearance by Common Ground's 'grand dame', Alys Sullivan, who sang a heartfelt rendition of' I'm in the Mood for Love'. Reflective of her playfulness, Reverend Glenda was in delightful character as Miss Scarlet, complete with a 'raven-haired high style hair-do' reminiscent of the 40's. As always, her joyful presence brought fun, light and love. Most guests commented that this year's celebration was the best to date. Yes!
